SUSTAINABILITY

I am committed to understanding the multi-faceted drivers of global warming, researching natural climate solutions, studying natural disasters, and helping to advance new international environmental laws.

The potential for laboratory work and scientific research to develop strategies to mitigate the daunting effects of climate change are critical and I intend to be part of the solutions to confront these issues on a worldwide scale.

ENERGY

Energy access, environmental justice, and community relations highlighted through the importance of sustainable practices in energy development are core interests.

With a focus on the impact of the over-exploitation of natural resources, I hope to call attention to energy equity as it relates to climate mitigation.

Through my internship at TECHINT - Tecpetrol in Argentina in July 2024, I was able to expand my knowledge of the complex environmental and social issues accompanying energy transition.

As Co-Creator of the documentary film, “Fueling the Energy Transition: Vaca Muerta,” I aim to work towards bridging the gap between economic drivers, scientific data and communal impact, in understanding the delicate balance of the expanding energy industry especially in lesser developed countries and communities.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Kids STEP UP aims to improve access to quality academic enrichment through health and scientific education in underserved communities. Through peer tutoring, we help elementary school children catch up and sustain learning, promoting a healthier future together.

Young Friends of Gemelli provides the Polyclinico Gemelli Hospital of Rome with support through a variety of initiatives to promote the well-being of patients across a range of hospital departments through the work of young volunteers.

RAPHAELLA GUERRAND-HERMÈS

Raphaella is a dedicated student, environmentalist, and athlete. From a young age, she has used her curiosity and desire to learn to motivate her in her many projects. Whether in the lab, analyzing DNA samples, or on her horse competing internationally, she is dedicated to her work. Having lived in California, Morocco, France, and Italy, Raphaella has always been fascinated with the world around her, engaging in any opportunity to further her understanding. This curiosity has fueled her to complete internships in a wide range of fields, spanning from learning about the energy transition in Vaca Muerta or submerging herself in the restoration of benthic communities off the coast of California. Raphaella is especially eager to share her gained knowledge, finding accessible ways such as documentary films to distribute her experiences and engage her peers and community.
